Read: 2 Samuel 19-21

Additional Scripture: “All my grandfathers descendants deserved nothing but death from my lord the king, but you gave your servant a place among those who eat at your table. So what right do I have to make any more appeals to the King?” (2 Samuel 19:28).

Devotion: The son of David’s best friend, and grandson of Saul, Mephibosheth from birth has been crippled in his feet. David has always shown him compassion by taking him in as one of his own and always taking care of him. Here we get to the heart of how Mephiboseth feels about it. While his whole family deserves death, he is given a place of honor. The story of humanity is that in our sin and rebellion we deserve nothing but death. Yet, God through Jesus offers us a seat of honor at the table. Like Mephibosheth we must realize we aren’t even deserving to ask that much from God, yet God gives it to us as a gift.

Pray: LORD thank you for the gift of Jesus on the cross. Help me learn how to daily accept that gift. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (Matt. 5:9)
