Read: 2 Kings 9-11

Focus Verse: “How can there be peace.” Jehu replied, ‘as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel abound?” (2 Kings 9:22b).

Devotion: Jehu had come to take the kingdom. He had been secretly anointed king, and one of this first acts is to expel any worship to Baal. Jehu knows as long as God is not worshiped in Israel there can be no peace. Sadly, Jehu isn’t perfect in his desire and love of the Lord. He expels Baal worship but still allowed worship of the golden calves. In our walk with Christ there are countless distractions and other things we can worship. We must learn how to keep relationship with Christ with all of our heart, unlike Jehu. Otherwise, we may do good eliminating one distraction just to replace it with another. Have the Lord be where your heart is, read first his scriptures, put your trust first in him, seek God First when stressed, or tired, or anxious.

Pray: LORD let me go to nothing within creation like I go to You. Help me stay firm in reading your scriptures daily, praying and meditating on You daily, and help me when I’m stressed run to your scripture and your presence for solace, and not any other fruitless habit of this world. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!” (Hab. 3:18)
