Read: Leviticus 22-23
Focus Verse: “The priests are to preform my service in such a way that they do not become guilty and die for treating it with contempt. I am the LORD, who makes them holy.” (22:9)
Devotion: Contempt is defined as ‘the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration.’ So priests must guard themselves to not treat service to God as though it’s beneath them. As someone who leads services in the worship of God, how do I strive to make sure I never approach service with contempt? Is it a simple correction of humility remembering the Great God I serve? Or is there something more I could, or should be doing? And further, as God’s people how do we not look on our rituals as things we ‘must do’ or ‘going through the motions’. If we start looking at the worship and service of our LORD as something we do just to do it, there is the risk that it can turn into something we see as below us. We must strive every day to keep the spark of passion we have for the LORD so that we worship God in such a way we do not get complacent or look on our services with contempt.
Pray: LORD help me guard my heart so ALL I do for You is in such a way that there is no contempt. Let my life be lived for you out of love and holy admiration knowing that You are God and I am not. Amen!
Additional Scripture: “Blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence.” (Jeremiah 17:7)
