Read: 1 Kings 21-22
Focus Verse: “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but will bring it on his house in the days of his son.” (1 Kings 21:29).
Devotion: The book of 1st kings has shown the degradation of Kings in Israel. Each gets worst than the last and it reaches its climax with Ahab as the worst, most evil King Israel has had yet. Despite all that, all the sin, evil, and murder, God forgives and lets up when Ahab is remorseful and humbles himself before God. Even the absolute worst can be forgive and restored with a repentant heart. Granted, not too long after this Ahab is right back to his evil ways and does meet his end the way God described. See it’s not enough to just be repentant once if you immediately run from God and regress to evil and malice. In our journey for right relationship with God it’s a daily walk that we should strive for.
Pray: LORD thank you for your forgiveness and for giving me new life in my baptism, but help me to continue to walk in faithful obedience every day of my life. Amen.
Additional Scripture: “The joy of the Lord is your strength!” (Neh. 8:10)
