Read: 2 Kings 18-19

Focus Verse: “They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands. Now, LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, LORD, are God.” (2 Kings 19:18-19).

Devotion: Hezekiah’s prayer of deliverance from Assyria is not focused on God saving the King or Jerusalem. In fact, the argument Hezekiah makes is what Assyria has been bragging about. “Did the gods of the nations… deliver them…” (19:12). Assyria reasons God is like all the other gods and Assyria will defeat the LORD as easily as the gods of the wood and stone. Hezekiah knows the LORD is unlike any other gods and Assyria will not stand against the LORD! What gods of stone or wood do we place our hope in? Jobs, money, houses, food? Place your hope in the LORD for the LORD our God is unlike anything we can make by our own hands.

Pray: LORD all we make will pass away, but You will remain. Allow me to place my trust in You. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “See how much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1)
