Read: Numbers 1-2

Focus Verse: “So the Israelites did everything the LORD commanded Moses; that is the way they encamped under their standards, and that is the way they set out, each of them with their clan and family.” (2:34)

Devotion: In these 2 chapters a census is taken. Boring, right? Well within all of this it informs us that they are to set up camp, move, and do everything within their family groupings. Throughout these 2 chapters the emphasis is the Israelites taking a strong meaning to family. Family is incredibly important! They camp, and are divided among family lines. Each family is represented with one person to count for the census, and that person is a representative all the way back to the first patriarch. The family line is strong. In terms of family, it’s a central theme. What role does family play in your life? Your development? Your faith? How have you seen family be important to you? I can’t answer those for you, but what I can say is that family is important.

Pray: LORD help me stay centered and connected to my family, both blood and chosen. Amen!

Additional Scripture: “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you.” (Deut. 31:8)
