Read: Job 1-4
Focus Verse: “At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” (Job 1:20-21).
Devotion: So much happens in these first four chapters. I could write from a few different ideas, but let’s start at this angle. Job loses everything he cares about, for no reason (2:3). The adversary (Satan) is seeing if he’ll curse God if everything he has is killed or destroyed. He lost all his children, his livestock, (so his possessions and work) and is left with nothing but his own life. He loses everything, he falls to his knees to mourn, and then worships God. Who in the face of losing everything praises and worships God in that moment? Job does, and he knows God is still good. When we have loss and hardships, will we both mourn and worship a good God?
Pray: LORD let You be my praise in the face of loss and worship. Amen.
Additional Scripture: “The LORD is my strength and my song; He has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise Him.” (Exodus 15:2)
