Read: 2 Samuel 22-24

Focus Verse: “But the king replied to Araunah, ‘No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” (2 Samuel 24:24).

Devotion: David needed to atone for a sin. So he comes to the place where he is supposed to sacrifice and the owner offers to just give it to him. David insists to pay because he knows his sacrifice must actually be a sacrifice. How often in our journey do we hope our faith will cost us nothing? It would be easy if we could restore relationship with God and it be free to us, but it’s not. Our faith and our belief costs us our life, it demands turning your life over to God, Putin grim in control. Like David, we know our faith demands a sacrifice that costs us. In our case that cost is a life devoted to God.

Pray: LORD I devote my life to you, I am willing to pay the cost of following you. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Anything is possible if a person believes.” (Mark 9:23)
