Read: 1 Kings 15-17

Focus Verse: “The jar of flower will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the land.” (1 Kings 17:14b).

Devotion: King Ahab is being contrasted with a widow. The top of society with the bottom. It is said that king Ahab committed great sin and so Elijah has to go tell him that there will be no rain until God says so. Consequently, Elijah tells this widow that her food will not run out until the LORD sends rain. So the King deals with a drought while the widow can survive. This woman was starving and at her end, yet we see she is faithful to God and God provides for her. King Ahab is not faithful to God, however. I’m not saying follow God and be rewarded, the widow here isn’t so much rewarded for her faith, it’s that God takes care of her and provides for her. If you put your trust in God he will be there for you. Just look at the care the LORD shows to a widow, the lowest of society. God doesn’t care about where we rank in society, a king or a widow, God cares if our heart is fixed on him.

Pray: LORD help my heart to be fixed on You all the days of my life. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” (Heb. 13:5)
