Read: 2 Kings 12-14

Focus Verse: “You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?” (2 Kings 14:10).

Devotion: Why go looking for trouble? King Amaziah of Judah had aspirations too big for himself. When he defeated Edom he decided to challenge Israel. Amaziah doesn’t show a great example of humility or restraint. Do you ever let victories in life make you try for more? Trying for more isn’t wrong, but Amaziah forgot the role of the LORD in his life, he thought he was great enough himself to challenge Israel. He forgot the LORD was his strength and deliverer from Edom. Dreaming big isn’t bad, but make sure that God is the director of those dreams. If we forget the role God should play in our plans then they will fail just as Amaziah failed before Israel and the LORD.

Pray: LORD let me keep You at the center of my plans, remembering You are why I’m successful at anything. Amen.

Additional Scripture:  “Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God.” (Romans 8:39)
