Read: Leviticus 5-7
Focus Verse: “The priest who offers it shall eat it; it is to be eaten in the sanctuary area, in the courtyard of the tent of meeting. Whatever touches any of the flesh will become holy, and if any of the blood is spattered on a garment, you must wash it in the sanctuary area.” (Leviticus 6:26-27)
Devotion: As we continue through the list of rules for sin offerings and sacrifices, it gets somewhat repetitive. That’s why when there is something different I perk up in my reading and know that it’s supposed to stands out. The sin offering doesn’t just clear sin, it says “whatever touches any of the flesh will become holy…” (6:27a) This also takes me to the image of Christ as the sin offering, and the great of communion representing his flesh. Once the sacrifice of Christ is made on the cross—as a sin offering, the perfect lamb of God—your sin is GONE. But even BIGGER, is whatever touches his flesh is made holy! Do you ever stop to consider when you take communion that when you take Jesus’ flesh, you become HOLY! We aren’t only forgiven of our sins, we are made holy.
Pray: LORD help me be keenly aware by being with Christ I am made Holy, and help me to live into that! I don’t want to squander this gift, so guide me daily as I learn what it means to be made holy and live like Christ. Amen!
Additional Scripture: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
