Read: 2 Chronicles 21-24

Focus Verse: “Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the years of Jehoiada the priest.” (2 Chronicles 24:2).

Devotion: But only for the years of the priest Jehoiada did he do what was right. Just as soon as Jehoiada the priest dies King Joash is swayed and forgets the kindness the priest showed him. The priest protected him as a child, raised him. For all purposes he is like a father to Joash. And Joash goes as far as killing the priests son when the son speaks against the wrongs of the king (24:22). How do we honor the people who raised and taught us? Think of who taught you the most about Jesus and who has since gone to live with Jesus. When we abandon God we abandon those who taught us about God. However, when we walk with God we honor those people who taught and showed us God’s love. We also see those people alive in our walking with God. Don’t forget, honor those who taught you about Jesus.

Pray: LORD help me honor You and my grandparents as I learn to love like You and as I grow closer to You daily. Let it be a daily reminder of them every time I see You. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep His covenant and obey His demands.” (Psalm 25:10)
