Read: 1 Kings 1-2
Focus Verse: “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in obedience to him and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses.” (1 Kings 2:2b-3a).
Devotion: As David was passing away he passed along to his successor the promise he had with God. See, God promised David that “‘if your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.” (2:4b). We may not be promised an everlasting Kingdom or throne, and we may not have faith to earn either of those, but as Christians the walk of faith is still the same. What God asks of us is obedience, to walk in line, in step, with God. Christs’ death washes us clean and while we don’t earn being raised to life with him, we are still called to a faith lived out through obedience. As Paul writes in Romans, our υπακοην πίστεως, faith-filled obedience. That is what God asks.
Pray: LORD let me walk in your steps every day as I seek to live a faith filled by obedience to You. Help me read your word and grow in my relationship with you daily. Amen.
Additional Scripture: “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Phil. 4:13)
