Read: 1 Samuel 15-17

Focus Verse: “But Samuel replied: ‘Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22).

Devotion: The theme through this, and David and Goliath, is the LORD seeks our heart and obedience. The sacrifices, what we do or give for God, isn’t as important as who we are and how we listen for God. See, “People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Sam 16:7b). The LORD wants our heart, wants our expression of love in obedience as testimony to our heart. Take courage knowing that the LORD isn’t concerned with how much we do or how popular or attractive we are. The LORD loves those whose hearts seek his own. Let your heart be obedient to loving the LORD.

Pray: LORD I pray you be all my heart desires. Let me relentlessly, obediently, chase after Your heart. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.” (Col. 3:15)
