Read: Genesis 19-21

Focus Verse: “When he hesitated, the man grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the LORD was merciful to them.” (Genesis 19:16).

Devotion: When the twin cities Sodom and Gomorrah were being destroyed, God warned and gave Lot every opportunity to leave because he was a good man who showed great kindness. Weird, Lot had so much faith, yet he didn’t want to go. He hesitated… He didn’t leave when God wanted him to leave so God grabbed him and led him to safety. Often times I feel like Lot. There was a time in my life when I felt God tell me to leave where I was, I very clearly heard God speak to me, and yet I hesitate… After the dust settled and I was situated in a new situation, a better situation, I realized that all that has happened to me is God grabbing my hand. Sometimes in the moment we don’t see the chaos and filth of our lives as anything other than chaos and filth. Lot must have felt pretty comfortable living in Sodom, and he was scared about what the next phase of his life held before him. But what we see with Lot, and what I have seen in my life, is in the midst of all the filth and chaos, God can transform and use it to lead us to safety.

Prayer: LORD help me to see you when you are sitting with me in the filth and chaos of life. God I know You are not a God who tempts or causes the chaos, but yet you come down and sit with us in it and offer us a way to safety in You. Help me to follow Your ways when Your plan is to lead me to safety and My plan is to stay in the hurt and the pain. Be my guiding light. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence.” (Jeremiah 17:7)
