Read: Nehemiah 1-3

Focus Verse: “The king said to me, ‘What is it you want?’ Then I prayed to the God of Heaven, and I answered the king, ‘If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.” (Nehemiah 2:4-5).

Devotion: Nehemiah was afraid to approach the king with his request. He was the king’s servant asking to leave Persia to return home and rebuild a fallen city. But every step of the way Nehemiah prayed and petitioned God. Before every decision or step he took he paused to pray and seek God’s guidance. That’s how we should approach life. Before every step, every big decision, or even every conversation, take a step back to pray first.

Pray: LORD let me seek You in prayer every step of my life. Help me remember to seek Your counsel first. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles.” (Isaiah 40:31)
