Read: 2 Samuel 16-18

Focus Verse: “Leave him alone; let him curse, for the LORD has told him to. It may be that the LORD will look upon my misery and restore to me his covenant blessing instead of his curse today.” (2 Samuel 16:11b-12).

Devotion: David is faced with a hater. A descendant of Saul is throwing stones and insults. While the author gives us information to suggest this descendant of Saul is biased, does that even matter when someone hurls insults at you? Even if untrue and biased, words can still hurt. David is advised to execute the man, yet he keeps his cool and leans on God. There are worse things for David right now, and besides, it could be true that this man speaks because of God. In the end, David knows the truth will be found out and these mans words can’t change that. David shows restraint and patience while waiting on God’s truth. When haters speak down of you, how do you handle it?

Pray: LORD grant me grace and patience to trust Your truth, and tuning out the lies. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” (Rom. 12:2)
