Read: 1 Samuel 21-24
Focus Verse: “As the old saying goes, ‘From evildoers come evil deeds,’ so my hand will not touch you.” (1 Samuel 24:13).
Devotion: Saul has become a monster! He is so insecure and paranoid he executed 85 innocent people because he thought they were conspiring with David. David doesn’t even want to harm Saul. In fact, David takes responsibility for Saul’s actions! “I am responsible for the death of your whole family.” (1 Sam 22:22b). No you’re not, David! But what a guy! As David humbles himself, Saul exalts himself. Even when Saul is caught in a corner and David has the opportunity to kill him, he doesn’t. Because David is confident he has done no wrong he proclaims that the LORD will be who judges between them.
Pray: LORD let me humbly seek to do no harm to anyone so I stand humbly and confidently before you saying “May the LORD judge between you and me” (1 Sam 24:12a). Let it not be I who judge. Amen!
Additional Scripture: “Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Matt. 23:12)
