Read: Leviticus 19-21
Focus Verse: “The LORD said to Moses, ‘Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.’”
Devotion: Be holy like God is holy, what does that mean? In this section on various laws, I find it beautiful that when it’s harvest time you aren’t to over harvest or take everything. The harvest that falls to the ground, or anything missed, and the edges of the land are reserved for the poor and foreigner (19:10). In requiring this, God is establishing Israel as a nation who cares for its poor and outcast individuals. From the earliest books of scripture we see how God cares for the least in society. But not just God, God’s people are called to that same care. The beginning of this talks about caring for family, but then shifts towards community care. To be holy like our God is holy requires and includes community care. So I ask myself: How am I caring for the least in society with my life?
Pray: LORD help me see where need is the greatest, and how I can be used to meet it. Amen!
Additional Scripture: “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
