Read: Nehemiah 10-11
Focus Verse: “The people of Israel, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and olive oil to the storerooms, where the articles for the sanctuary and for the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the musicians are also kept. ‘We will not neglect the house of our God.’” (Nehemiah 10:39).
Devotion: After reading the Law the Israelites recommit themselves to God. They make all the promises they were to keep, but they end by saying they won’t neglect the house of God. In the first section they commit to purity, that is, what they won’t do, what they will obtain from. In the ending section we see that there is a commitment of what they will do more directly for God. We make similar commitments in our baptism. Granted we aren’t committing to the same extent they are with the Law here. However, we commit to live pure lives like Christ and to maintain our relationship with God. Recommit yourself to living like Christ, and maintain a relationship with God.
Pray: LORD be my guide and my partner in life, so that I may live like You and stay in relationship with You. Amen.
Additional Scripture: “My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.” (Psalm 73:26)
