Read: 2 Samuel 8-12
Focus Verse: “Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped.” (2 Samuel 12:20a).
Devotion: David did a wicked thing with Bathsheba, and to her now late husband Uriah. However, because of his sin, the LORD is furious. When he’s called out, the LORD finishes by having Nathan say “The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the LORD, the son born to you will die.” (2 Samuel 12:13b-14). For the next 7 days David fasted and prayed to save his child, but his child still died. Despite this, David worshiped the LORD. David prayed for his child to be saved, but he worshiped even the child wasn’t. David’s attendants asked him why he would still worship. Want to know what he said? “Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” (2 Samuel 12:23b). In death they will be reunited. It hurts to see loved ones go. Today I was reminded of this watching old family videos with my grandparents. It hurts. Frankly, it sucks. But we know, with what Christ did on the cross, we will one day be reunited with our loved ones. As Christ was resurrected, we will be resurrected also. They are not coming back, no, but they are not gone forever.
Pray: LORD, thank you for Easter. Thank you for your sacrifice that we might one day be with You and all our loved ones for eternity. Amen!
Additional Scripture: “He made us, and we are His. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture.” (Psalm 100:3)
