Read: 2 Kings 1-3
Focus Verse: “And he replied, ‘as surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.’ So the two of them walked on.” (2 Kings 2:6b).
Devotion: Three times this happens. Both Elijah and Elisha know it’s time for Elijah to die and go to be with the LORD, but he doesn’t want his servant Elisha to have to suffer and witness it happen. Elijah tries to get away from Elisha 3 times so that Elisha doesn’t have to watch his master be taken from him, yet 3 times Elisha refuses to leave Elijah’s side. Even though he knows what’s about to happen Elisha refuses to leave. We know our time with each other is limited, be it death, moving, or other circumstances. So like Elisha we need to cherish and make the most of the time we have with each other when we have it. Elisha knows it will suck to say good bye to Elijah, but he refuses to leave and takes every last moment to cherish his time with his friend.
Pray: LORD help me remember nothing lasts forever, and remind me to cherish and live my moments with people to their fullest. Amen.
Additional Scripture: “This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Ps. 118:24)
