Read Exodus 33-35

Focus Verse: “If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.” (Exodus 33:13).

Devotion:Moses may have favor with God, but he wants more, wants to keep it going. However, the Israelite people have lost God’s favor. They have broken their promise to God and so God says he doesn’t want to keep leading them. His solution is that he will send an angel to lead Israel. So God will still be taking care and leading the people, just not directly. That’s not good enough for Moses. Moses says: “If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” (33:15b). Moses knows how badly the people need God to be their guide, leader, and rock. Moses knows apart from God none of this will go well, or be possible. This reminds me of a song I’ve heard where the chorus says “I don’t wanna go if you’re not going before me.” So let that be our statement today as we ask God to always be before us.

Pray: LORD help me to call on your name to always be going before me. So God I proclaim to you that I don’t wanna go if you’re not going before me. Amen!

Additional Scripture: “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.” (Isiah 43:1-2)
