Read: Leviticus 14-15
Focus Verse: “If, however, they are poor and cannot afford these, they must take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for them, together with a tenth of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of oil, and two doves or two young pigeons, such as they can afford, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.” (Leviticus 14:21-22).
Devotion: Several times in this section it is stated that there is an alternate sacrifice for someone who can’t afford the normal sacrifice. “If, however, they are too poor and cannot afford these,…” (14:21a, etc). Even if someone is too poor.. Social status, income, nothing! It doesn’t matter about that, all can come to be cleansed and be in relationship with God! Wow! How beautiful that God doesn’t discriminate relationships like we as broken people so often do. In God there are no racial, economic or other divisions, there are just people who seek to know God and be in relationship with God.
Pray: LORD help me remember I can come to your table, I don’t need money or status, I just need love and desire to be made clean by you! And keep in the forefront of my vision how I can be more like you in my daily life seeking to eliminate discrimination before me. Amen!
Additional Scripture: “God bless those who work for peace, for they will be called children of God.” (Matt 5:9)
