Read: Job 29-31

Focus Verse: “If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary, if I have kept my bread to myself, not sharing it with the fatherless—“ … “if I had raised my hand against the fatherless, knowing that I had influence in court, then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let it be broken at the joint.” (Job 31:16-17; 21-22).

Devotion: Who living can proclaim innocence before God? I know I still fall short at times. But Job owns it if he’s failed to live with God’s love in the world, then he’s willing to accept the consequences. But Job knows he’s avoided temptation, he says: “for I dreaded destruction from God, and for fear of his splendor I could not do such things.” (Job 31:23). I want that faith! Faith and discipline to respect God SO much that my respect is what keeps me from sin.

Pray: LORD help me see You and stand in awe of You. Let that awe inspire me to always walk in Your ways. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Be strong and courageous! For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
