Read: 2 Kings 20-22

Focus Verse: “Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I have spoken…and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you, declares the LORD.” (2 Kings 22:19).

Devotion: When King Josiah was 26 the book of the Law was discovered and read to him. When he realized how Judah had broken the law countless times he was shook. Tearing his clothes and weeping is a sign of reverence and pain when someone dies. Josiah realizes the magnitude of weight to Judah’s sin, and he weeps before God. God hears sand spares Josiah because Josiah’s heart is set on God and he works to make right all the wrongs of Judah. Like Josiah, when we hear the word of the LORD we must put it into practice. Others sins are not on us, but we must fix our hearts when we hear God’s word spoken to us.

Pray: LORD help me hear your word and correct my behavior. Help me follow after You and fix my heart on You. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Blessed are all those who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” (Luke 11:28)
