Read: Nehemiah 7

Focus Verse: “After the wall had been rebuilt and I had set the doors in place, the gatekeepers, the musicians and the Levites were appointed. I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah the commander of the citadel, because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most people do.” (Nehemiah 7:1-2).

Devotion: Of some 42,360 people now in Jerusalem, Nehemiah chooses his brother to be in charge. However, this isn’t a choice of nepotism, he chooses Hanani because he fears, he places God in his life, more than most do. How often is that our qualification for anything? But we see those elected in God’s kingdom are those who humble themselves and follow God.

Pray: LORD let me be humbled before You, and let me follow You! Amen.

Additional Scripture: “I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!” (Habakkuk 3:18)
