Read: Genesis 46-47

Focus Verse: “Pharaoh asked the brothers, ‘What is your occupation?’ ‘Your servants are shepherds,’ they replied to Pharaoh, ‘just as our fathers were.’ They also said to him, ‘We have come to live here for a while, because the famine is severe in Canaan and your servants’ flocks have no pasture. So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.’” (Genesis 47:3-4).

Devotion: It’s easy to get comfortable and complaciente with where we are at. When Israel entered Egypt it was to bide their time during the famine. So at most like 6 years then they should have been on their way back to Cannon. Instead, they are awarded good land, and given a good place to live in Goshen, and given good jobs. They get comfortable and maybe stay longer than they should have in Egypt. This leads us into what we read in Exodus, several generations, possibly 400 years, and they are still in Egypt. A little later on we will see how they initially see Egypt as their savior from the famine, when in fact it was God who brought them to Egypt. However, I wonder if they would have left when they said they were going to, would they have avoided slavery and the need for a great Exodus? Perhaps not, but how easy is it to just be comfortable staying put.

Pray: LORD help me to become aware to the areas in my life I have become comfortable, and where I still need to grow and move. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles.” (Isiah 40:31)
