Read: Psalms 36-39

Focus Verse: “You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, helping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. But now, LORD, what do I look for? My hope is in you.” (Psalm 39:5-7).

Devotion: Do we waste our time with the short lives we have? David makes a point so true it’s still true today. He points out the mindless running around of life. How so many people just run mindlessly through the day, working and living like a zombie to gain money. People rush through their short lives and miss everything. All this for what? Money!? Heaping up wealth but we don’t keep it when we die, so what we chase is fleeting and our short lives are meaningless. But, what does David strive for? His hope is in God! David knows wealth doesn’t follow us in death, but God is eternal. We must avoid the trap of rushing through life to attain fleeting wealth, and appreciate each day with hope in the LORD.

Pray: LORD help me slow down. Help me focus on a relationship with You and not with money. For money is fleeting but You are forever. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)
