Read: Psalm 9-16
Focus Verse: “He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” (Psalm 10:3-4).
Devotion: No room for God. The wicked man boasts about his own evil and lustful desires. The real atrocity here though is what makes the person wicked, that is, in all his ways there is no room for God. It’s like that unforgivable sin in Mark’s gospel; seeing God but thinking God is a demon. Recognizing goodness as evil, and having no room for God’s goodness in your life. The true measure of wickedness and evil is leaving NO room for God in your life. Consequently we see at the end of this 10th Psalm that the “LORD, hear(s) the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry.” (Psalm 10:17). When we hurt God seeks to encourage and listen. God is present with us in our suffering. So, why would we not want to make room for God in our lives?
Pray: LORD let me keep You in my thoughts and prayers, always making room for You in my life. Amen.
Additional scripture: “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Phil. 4:13)
