Read: Numbers 28-30
Focus Verse: “When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.”(30:2)
Devotion: What do I know about marriage?! This comes form the regulations given to Moses from God about relationships. It doesn’t explicitly say it has to do with marriage, but the surrounding material suggests that. I still tend to believe that this message is all over scripture, don’t make a vow unless you intend to keep it. In our baptismal and new member response we agree to (make a vow to) follow after God, and renounce evil and wickedness in the world, for ourselves and those joining the body. We say ‘by our prayers, presence, gifts, and service’ that we will do this. How have you followed God this week in prayer, presence, gift, and service? How have you helped a fellow Christian this week with our prayer, gift, presence, and service? We have made a commitment to God, so we need to do everything in our power to keep it.
Pray: LORD I pray we begin to do the daily work of following you with ALL of our life. Amen!
Additional Scripture: “Blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” (Luke 11:28)
