Read: Genesis 12-13

Focus Verse: “The LORD had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’” (Genesis 12:1).

Devotion: All the travels of Abram are interesting to me because God said he’d show him the land he’d inherit, then come stories of at least 4 different places he lives. Is God showing him each place beforehand and he’s going? Or is God just with him as he travels and Abram is waiting for God to say, YES HERE! Either way the faith it would take is crazy. If he went apart from God—that is, if God hasn’t led him to each place— I suppose it could look like Abram is being unfaithful. However, that’s not the kind of man scripture tells us he is (15:6). So, I can only assume that God goes before him each step, or at the very least is with him. Abram is showing great faith! Would it have been scary moving so much? As a Methodist Pastor, Azalea Park UMC is the first in what could be many moves throughout my career. God will be in the midst of every move we make, but the call will always remain the same, just follow God.

Prayer: LORD I pray for the faith to follow you like Abram did. I pray that you would guide my steps and walk with me everywhere I go. Whether I’m sitting at home or out in the community, LORD be with me and guide me. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Give your burdens to the LORD, and He will take care of you.” (Psalm 55:22)
