Read: Deuteronomy 24-27

Focus Verse: “If the neighbor is poor, do not go to sleep with their pledge in your possession. Return their cloak by sunset so that your neighbor may sleep in it.” (Deu 24:12-13a).

Devotion: Entering the last chunk of laws it seems the focus is not taking advantage of others for your own gain. With all people we’re called to be fair and honest. That’s one way in which we can show love to others. Don’t put your own gain or importance above others. This is such a fine line sometimes it seems. However, caring and taking care/giving time to yourself doesn’t cheat others out of your ability to care for them. In fact it helps to have more available to give. That’s something I’ve had to learn recently. It’s important to take time alone for myself so that I’m able to give my time to others. But overall the point here is, be honest and don’t cheat others to get rich.

Pray: LORD help me to stay honest with all others, to never put my financial gain in opposition to caring for someone else. Amen.

Additional Scripture: “Give your burdens to the LORD and he will take care of you.” (Ps 55:22)
